John Suderman

John Suderman began his violin studies at age 10. He completed his Bachelor of Music Degree at UBC, where he studied with John Loban. He also holds an education certificate.

 

John began his playing and teaching career in Prince George in 1982, when he became a member of the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. He taught violin and conducted the junior string orchestra at the Prince George Music School. Mr. Suderman now lives in Kelowna and is a member of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra.

John teaches violin in many styles including traditional Conservatory Violin, Suzuki Violin, and fiddling. His experience has seen that the Suzuki method of violin teaching is an excellent method of instruction for beginning students. Once students reach a certain technical level, it is common for them to change to the Conservatory method.

When he feels that students are ready for examinations he will guide them in their preparation. John encourages students to participate in music festivals as well. John also believes that it is important for students to experience group instruction throughout their development. This begins with Suzuki group lessons, then later in the string orchestra. The social experience is valuable in such groups and rounds out a student’s musical experience.

Effective June 30, 2022, John no longer teaches in-person lessons in Penticton. Lessons are offered online or in John's home studio in Kelowna only.
