Mia has a Bachelor of Music in Opera from UBC, an Artist Diploma from the Vancouver Academy of Music and an Opera Diploma from the University of Toronto. She has participated in some of Canada’s most prestigious summer training programs for young singers and worked with top teachers and coaches from Canada and the United States. She has been the recipient of many scholarships and bursaries.

Mia has extensive experience performing as an opera singer as well as singing oratorio and solo recitals. She has had engagements with Vancouver New Music, Opera Kelowna, Burnaby Lyric Opera, Saskatoon Opera, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Opera in Concert (Toronto), Penticton Community Concerts, Opera Nuova (Edmonton), Opera VMana (Montreal) and the West Coast Symphony (Vancouver). Some of her favourite credits include Orfeo in Orfeo ed Euridice, Jo in Little Women, Niklaus in Les Contes d’Hofmann, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, the title role in L’Enfant et les Sortileges among others. Her favourite role thus far is Der Komponist in Ariadne auf Naxos.

Mia’s other musical interest includes redefining the use of the classically trained voice in theatre. Mia recently wrote, directed, performed and produced a one-woman opera entitled Biography of a Voice. Her first foray into improvisation, Biography of a Voice retold the archetypal story of the challenges we go through in finding our Authentic Voice. This is a work in progress…

Outside of music and theatre, Mia is passionate about the outdoors: river canoeing, rock climbing and cycle touring. She is also interested in movement, expressive arts therapy and yoga. Mia whole-heartedly believes that in order to perform well, one must live life to its fullest. She encourages the practice of mindfulness in everyday life to help us gain insights that will give us the material to create rich characters on stage.

Mia is excited to be teaching and sharing her love for voice and theatre. A strong emphasis will be placed on breath technique and building a solid foundation in musicianship. Mia is open to work on all genres of music with beginner and experienced students of any age.
