Norene Morrow

Norene holds two music degrees in Vocal Performance: M. Mus. (University of Arizona), B. Mus. (University of Manitoba). Currently, she is preparing for her ARCT Teacher’s Diploma in Speech Arts and Drama. Norene has 40+ years’ experience in teaching singing, music theory, and choral directing. Credentials include Penticton Academy (2004-2008), Kelowna and Vernon Community Music Schools, Steinbach Bible College, Mennonite Brethren Bible College (Winnipeg), Algoma University (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), University of Manitoba (prep and degree programmes) and the University of Arizona (graduate assistant). Choral conducting experience includes Algoma University Choir, St. Michael and All Angels Cathedral choirs (Kelowna) and Musaic Vocal Ensemble (Summerland) and various other church and community choirs.

The teaching of speech arts and drama has been an evolutionary process that began with drama studies at university and performing in theatre and opera productions. Norene taught classical singing for many years but for the last ten she has emerged as somewhat of a musical theatre specialist through her work with Kelowna Actors Studio/Academy and participating in various acting workshops. She has prepared many students and up and coming professionals in monologue and song work for local auditions and theatre schools across Canada, USA, and England.

In 2017, Norene began formal speech arts studies with Deborah McGladdery, who continues to be her teacher and mentor. She took her grade 10 practical exam in January 2019 and continues to work her way through the many written exams leading up to her ARCT. She has adjudicated speech arts at the William’s Lake festival and most recently gave poetry workshops at Giant’s Head and Trout Creek elementary schools for the annual “Choose Music” arts fair in Summerland.
