Don Kerr

Songwriting Bootcamp for Adults

Owning and operating his own recording studios since 1989, Don Kerr has produced, engineered, and played on hundreds of releases by respected Canadian and international artists including: Rheostatics, Gord Downie, Chris Hadfield, Ron Sexsmith, Neko Case, Bahamas, Jason Collett, The Weather Station, Kevin Hearn, The Hidden Cameras, Snowblink, Evalyn Parry, Annabelle Chvostek, Karyn Ellis, Rich Aucoin, Alex Cuba, Minotaurs, Mitchell Froom, Spookey Ruben, Veda Hille, Alex Pangman, HOTCHA!, Peter Elkas, Bob Snider, Kyp Harness, The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir, Charlotte Cornfield, Ana Egge, Ashley MacIsaac, Hayden, and Shawna Caspi.


He has performed across Canada and around the world for 30 years playing drums and cello, and singing with Ron Sexsmith, Rheostatics, Bob Wiseman, Bahamas, Dan Mangan, his own band Communism, and many other great artists including Veda Hille, Do Make Say Think, Jason Collett, Neko Case, Buck 65, Minotaurs, Bidiniband, Geoff Berner, Sarah Harmer, CR Avery, Old Man Ludecke, John K Samson, Mathias Kom, Tom Wilson, Les Stroud, Andy Kim, Hydra (Leslie Feist, Snowblink, AroarA), Tanya Tagaq, Mieke, Ben Watt, Kate Fenner, Georgia Harmer, Ocean Potion, and The Weather Station.

Don has organized many community events in Toronto, stage managing fundraisers and concerts for Right to Play, UNICEF, the Canadian Liver Foundation, High Park Nature Centre. Organizing performances by kids and stars, from Girls Rock Camp to Andy Kim. Bringing communities together to celebrate creativity, raising awareness and funds for the people most in need has been his passion since becoming a professional musician and a father. He was co- artistic director of the Toronto Bicycle Music Festival 2015-2017. These high ideals for community are also expressed by his band Communism. In 2016 Don produced a record by The Social Mystics, a group of mental health patients who have grown into musical ambassadors for compassion around mental health issues.
