Jeff Andrew

Guitar, Fiddle

Jeff Andrew is a guitarist, fiddler and singer-songwriter with 3 albums to date, hundreds of shows performed across Canada and dozens of festival appearances. He began playing guitar at age 13 and spent his high school years playing classic rock, blues and metal in a series of bands before discovering folk music in his early 20s.

This led to him learning to sing, and he began writing his own songs. The following years were a whirlwind of travel, busking and live performances (both solo and with bands). Along the way he soaked up a history of 20th Century guitar playing, and learnt his craft as a songwriter on the road. His guitar style now covers a range of techniques, from country & blues-based fingerpicking and acoustic strumming to loud, effects-driven electric guitar riffs and leads - whatever suits the song.

In 2017, Jeff completed a Diploma of Music at Vancouver Community College, majoring in composition. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria in creative writing and journalism. Jeff teaches from sheet music, tablature and by ear. Right and left hand techniques are presented along with scales, rhythms and theory, to help students learn the language of music. Whether your goal is to play around a campfire, learn how to jam on music you’ve never heard before, or turn your original fragments into complete songs and arrangements, Jeff can give you the string skills and musical knowledge to bring the sounds in your imagination to life.

Jeff believes in making music accessible to everyone, and his goal is to teach students how to be their own teachers. He is excited to work with students of all ages from 5 years old and up, including beginners.
