Sandra Wilmot


Sandra taught elementary school music (grades 3-8) from 2006-2010 and currently coaches violin sectionals for the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra (OSYO) and co-directs the KCMS Junior and Senior String Ensembles. She has previously served as a string faculty member at KISSM (Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music) and is currently on faculty at Strings the Thing summer music camp. Sandra is active in facilitating string workshops, masterclasses, chamber music, and performance opportunities for her students. She has successfully established and run several string orchestras and school string programs, subsidized group programs for low-income families, as well as an instrument bank in operation for over a decade. Sandra has offered instruction in theoretical subjects including RCM Rudiments, Harmony, and Counterpoint, and is an award-winning composer who has garnered national awards and commissions for her original works. Most recently she was a finalist at Interplay 2014 and had a new choral piece workshopped with the Vancouver Chamber Choir.

Sandra works with various ensembles throughout the Okanagan as a professional freelance musician and has been playing regularly with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and Kamloops Symphony Orchestra since 2001. She has performed with various other orchestras across Canada and has attended many prominent orchestral and early music training programs in Vancouver and Toronto, as well as workshops with some of Canada’s most prominent musicians, including Anton Kuerti, Andre Laplante, Erica Raum, Scott St. John, Peter Oundjian, and Marc Destrube. Sandra is currently on faculty at the Kelowna Community Music School, Kamloops Symphony Music School, and Strings the Thing. Sandra is a graduate the University of British Columbia.
