Music Camptastic: How Music Works

Monday to Friday

9am-3pm

Join us at the historic Leir House this summer for our week-long How Music Works summer camp and explore what it takes to make music, with instructor Sam McNally. We’ll start off using the first instrument all of us learn to play: the voice! We’ll learn how to read the symbols and notations we see on paper and how to translate them to sound. During the week, we’ll explore how orchestras work and learn how to build our own instruments. We’ll even form our very own orchestra, and we’ll end the week with a performance of our own original composition. Come prepared to learn new things, experiment wildly, and have a generous amount of fun along the way! THIS CAMP IS NOW FULL.

Campfire Songs: Adult Guitar Class with Maiya Robbie

4 Tuesdays

7pm-8:30pm

UPDATE: This class has been postponed until the Fall.

Join guitar and voice teacher Maiya Robbie to learn some basic chords, strumming patterns, and campfire singalong favourites! This class is perfect for those who’ve had little to no guitar and want to learn the basics, AND/OR those who have some confidence with chords but are wanting the chance to practice and play with others.

Sitting beneath the beautiful shade trees at Leir House, we will cover: basic anatomy of your guitar, major and minor chords (and a few extras), some strumming patterns, and one (optional) fingerpicking pattern. And, by course end, we will have learned to play (and sing) 2-3 campfire songs! Register soon! Enrollment is limited to a maximum of 8 participants.
